Give your fictional world a naming system.
A memorable name fits the role it plays in a story. Start with the kind of character, place or object you need, then choose a generator whose sound supports that role. The goal is a coherent shortlist you can edit, not a promise that a suggested name has never appeared elsewhere.
- 01
Define the role
Decide whether you are naming a person, settlement, guild or item. Read the chosen generator description and use its available settings to narrow the direction.
- 02
Compare names together
Read a few candidates beside the other names in your story. Look for confusingly similar openings and names that are hard to distinguish in dialogue.
- 03
Keep a naming notebook
Save your favorites and note pronunciation, role and spelling. Record the seed and settings when you want to reproduce a series while editing.
Example: evaluate a name in context
Role: a coastal trading town
Test: "We reach [name] before dawn."
Compare: town name, nearby port, main character
Keep: distinct sounds and a consistent spellingThis is a writing exercise, not a generated place or official fictional location. Read candidates aloud and try them in more than one sentence before choosing.
| Use | Useful check | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Character | Distinct in dialogue | Several nearly identical names |
| Place | Easy to say in directions | Changing spellings between chapters |
| Guild or item | Fits its role and tone | Treating inspiration as official lore |
Before you use the result
Practical answers for your next test.
Must I keep a generated name unchanged?
No. Treat it as a starting point and adjust the spelling or sound to fit your own world.
How can I avoid confusing similar names?
Compare the shortlist as a group, especially first syllables and length. A good isolated name may still be too close to another important character.
Does a seed reserve or certify a name?
No. It helps reproduce a sequence with the same settings and generator behavior; it is not an availability check.
Guides for this task
All guides →One idea. A whole new world.
Start with a character, a universe or a place. Tune the sound, then keep the names that fit your story.
How are these names created?
Original syllables, weighted patterns and phonetic rules combine into new suggestions. These creative generators run in your browser and do not use your test-data quota. Names are not checked for uniqueness outside your result set.
Are these official franchise generators?
No. These are unofficial fan generators, not affiliated with or endorsed by the respective rights holders. Franchise names describe the inspiration only. No official logos, artwork or character-name databases are used.
Where are my favorites saved?
Signed-in users save favorites to their Genory account. Guests save them in this browser. Recent generators always stay on this device. A seed and the same settings reproduce a series of names.
