PRACTICAL GUIDE

Test names as people write them.

A name field is more than a short label. Use localized name samples to test form input, search results, account menus and exported records. Genory presents names in Latin script; that makes the samples convenient for some workflows, but does not cover every writing system used in a country.

  1. 01

    Choose a locale

Start with a market your application supports. Keep the chosen country with your fixture so a reviewer knows what the sample is intended to exercise.

  2. 02

    Try several layouts

Place a name in the narrowest account menu, a table cell and a document heading. Check wrapping and truncation without changing the stored value.

  3. 03

    Keep the difficult cases

Save useful long or accented examples. Add deliberate cases for spaces and punctuation to your own tests rather than assuming a random batch covers every naming pattern.

Example: display text and search text

Display name: Ana María Santos
Search input: ana maria
Test: Does your documented search policy find the record?

This hand-written fixture illustrates accent handling. Decide whether search ignores accents, then test that behavior while preserving the original display name. Do not silently remove characters from the saved record.

Before you use the result

Practical answers for your next test.

Does a country selection cover all names used there?

No. Locale samples are a useful starting set, not an exhaustive description of a population. Add examples relevant to your users.

Can I recreate an earlier name?

Save the result yourself. Repeating the options generates new samples rather than retrieving an old record.

How should I test non-Latin scripts?

Add explicit fixtures in the scripts your product supports. Latin-script output alone cannot test right-to-left layout or every Unicode input case.
