Testing United Kingdom interfaces

This locale uses en_GB definitions for names and presentation formats. Test text lengths, input handling, exports and Unicode support. City, region and available postal codes come from the same GeoNames locality. See the generated quality note for postal coverage; street and house number remain synthetic.

COUNTRY-SPECIFIC TEST CASES

Testing United Kingdom forms

UK postcode and address inputs need more flexibility than a fixed numeric field. Use the generator’s country setting for a coherent profile, then test short and long postcode shapes and the address components your own product actually stores.

Generator locale: en_GB. Suggested application display locale: en-GB. These are separate settings; this guide does not change the generator’s output.

Postcodes and address lines

The UPU describes several alphanumeric postcode patterns with a space before the final three characters. It also distinguishes building, thoroughfare and post-town elements. County is not required in a postal address when post town and postcode are supplied; avoid making a generic state field compulsory for every UK address.

Names and optional fields

Use separate fixtures for a building name, multiple address lines and a name with an apostrophe. Check that optional input remains optional after switching from another country. A familiar-looking name or address does not establish a real person or a delivery point.

Ambiguous dates and phone displays

Use a date such as 2026-04-05 to reveal whether an import interprets day and month differently. Keep the stored date explicit and test en-GB presentation separately. Keep country and phone display together, and never use a synthetic sample to test actual calling or SMS delivery.

A deliberate regression fixture

Editorial regression fixture — not a real address
country: GB
postcode_shapes: "A9 9AA", "AA9A 9AA" (A = letter, 9 = digit)
county: omitted
date_only: "2026-04-05"
expected: preserve the date and allow optional county input

These editorial inputs are for controlled tests. They are not verified addresses, guaranteed unassigned contact details, or automatically generated examples.

  1. 01

    Postcode

Test multiple shapes and the space before the last three characters.

  2. 02

    Optional county

Switch from a US form to a UK form without retaining a mandatory-state error.

  3. 03

    Date-only input

Import the explicit date and verify day/month presentation without changing the underlying day.
