Synthetic identities; domains, addresses and numbers may coincide with real values. Do not contact or send payments.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Keep phone display separate from phone identity.

Phone samples help test country selectors, contact cards and import fields. A number that has an expected shape is not necessarily assigned, reachable or owned by the person using a form. Build tests around the formatting and validation behavior your product promises.

  1. 01

    Select a country

Use the intended country context when interpreting a local number. A national-looking string without that context can be ambiguous.

  2. 02

    Compare storage and display

Check how the value appears in a contact card and how it survives saving. Keep the plus sign and meaningful zeros instead of converting the field to a number.

  3. 03

    Isolate delivery

Use a mock SMS or calling service. Test a verification-code workflow with provider sandbox fixtures rather than contacting the generated number.

Example: preserve an international prefix

Input text: "+<calling code><subscriber digits>"
Storage: a string, retaining the leading +
Display: spacing chosen by your application

The placeholder deliberately does not identify a callable number. Assert the exact normalized representation your API expects, then test display formatting separately.

Before you use the result

Practical answers for your next test.

Should a phone field use numeric storage?

No. Phone identifiers are text, and numeric conversion can lose signs or zeros.

Does a valid format mean SMS will work?

No. Delivery depends on the destination and service; ownership needs a separate verification flow.

How do I reproduce a formatting bug?

Save the sample, selected country, expected display and actual result. Include the smallest input that still demonstrates the issue.
