Testing Germany interfaces

This locale uses de definitions for names and presentation formats. Test text lengths, input handling, exports and Unicode support. City, region and available postal codes come from the same GeoNames locality. See the generated quality note for postal coverage; street and house number remain synthetic.

COUNTRY-SPECIFIC TEST CASES

Testing Germany forms

Use a German profile to test the connections between a name, address and country setting. Add deliberate Unicode and leading-zero fixtures alongside random output: those cases make a regression test repeatable.

Generator locale: de. Suggested application display locale: de-DE. These are separate settings; this guide does not change the generator’s output.

German address fields and postal codes

The UPU describes a five-digit postcode before the locality, with street and house number on the preceding line. Keep the postcode as text so a leading zero survives an import. Store the generated region alongside the city when relevant to your application; a state or postal-looking value does not establish deliverability.

Names, umlauts and compound inputs

Use editorial strings such as Jörg, Müller and Straße to test your own input, search and export behavior. These are hand-written test cases, not promises about Genory output. Genory presents generated names in Latin script; preserve the original input if your application also keeps a normalized search key.

Phone, dates and German IBANs

Keep country selection with a phone fixture and compare display text with the value stored by your application. Do not infer that a number can receive calls. For a date-only field, use an unambiguous stored date and test German display separately from timezone conversion. Use the dedicated IBAN tools for structure and checksum questions, not to confirm a German bank account.

A deliberate regression fixture

Editorial regression fixture — not a generated or deliverable address
country: DE
display_name: Jörg Müller
postal_code_input: "01234" (shape-only test)
street_label: "Straße"
date_only: "2026-10-04"
expected: preserve text and date-only value through CSV round trip

These editorial inputs are for controlled tests. They are not verified addresses, guaranteed unassigned contact details, or automatically generated examples.

  1. 01

    Leading zero

Export and reimport the postcode as text; do not turn five characters into four.

  2. 02

    Unicode

Save the accent-bearing input and compare it with the value shown after editing.

  3. 03

    Address relationship

Keep the generated locality and quality note together; do not combine arbitrary cities and postcodes.
