Test the copied character, not just its picture.
Emoji can contain several Unicode code points even when they look like one symbol. Use the explorer to find a sequence, inspect its code points and copy it into your own application. The catalogue artwork is a preview; the destination controls how pasted text is drawn.
- 01
Find a relevant sequence
Search by name or code and use the category and skin-tone filters. Choose a few different sequence types rather than only simple single-character examples.
- 02
Copy into the target surface
Try the character in an input, button label and exported text. Inspect the saved value after a reload, not only the initial preview.
- 03
Exercise editing behavior
Move the cursor, delete the emoji and test length limits. Your application should have a clear policy for visible characters versus underlying code units.
Example: one flag, two code points
Flag: 🇩🇪
Code points: U+1F1E9 U+1F1EA
Test: copy, save, reopen and delete as intendedA visual symbol is not necessarily a single code point or JavaScript string unit. Do not assume a string-length check matches what a user counts on screen.
| Case | What to inspect | Possible failure |
|---|---|---|
| Skin tone | Full sequence survives | Modifier lost |
| Joined emoji | Rendering and deletion | Partial sequence remains |
| Flag | Code points and font support | Letters or fallback glyphs |
Before you use the result
Practical answers for your next test.
Why does the pasted emoji look different?
You copied Unicode text, not the catalogue image. The destination app supplies its own artwork or font.
Does a missing picture mean copying is impossible?
No. Some sequences may lack local artwork while the Unicode character remains available to copy.
Are custom stickers included?
The catalogue is based on a Unicode snapshot. Platform-specific stickers are a different kind of content and are not interchangeable with Unicode text.
