Hex to Text / Text to Hex Converter

Convert hexadecimal bytes to text and text to hex in your browser. Use strict ASCII or UTF-8 and inspect invalid input, byte counts and round trips.

Type or paste into either field. The other field updates instantly.

Free, no account needed. Conversion runs in your browser; inputs are not uploaded or saved. The field you edit determines the conversion direction.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Read hexadecimal bytes as text, and convert text back.

Hexadecimal represents each byte using two digits from 0 to 9 and A to F. This converter helps inspect encoded payloads, debug text fields and prepare byte examples. Use UTF-8 for Unicode text or strict seven-bit ASCII when your protocol permits only the original 128 character codes.

  1. 01

    Edit either field

Type normal text into the Text field to create hex, or paste bytes into the Hexadecimal field to decode them. Both fields are editable and update each other instantly.

  2. 02

    Select the encoding

UTF-8 handles accented text and emoji. ASCII rejects characters or bytes outside U+0000–U+007F instead of silently changing them.

  3. 03

    Inspect the result

Review the byte count and enable visible control characters to reveal tabs, line breaks, nulls or a byte-order mark. Copy always preserves the raw converted value.

ASCII and UTF-8 use different numbers of bytes

Hello → 48 65 6C 6C 6F
é → C3 A9 (UTF-8)
👋 → F0 9F 91 8B (UTF-8)
LF → 0A

A Unicode code point can take more than one UTF-8 byte. Visible control-character escapes are a display aid, not replacement text in the copied result.

Practical answers for your next test.

Is this also a hex to ASCII converter?

Yes. Select Strict ASCII to enforce the original 7-bit range. UTF-8 is the default for modern Unicode text.

Does my text leave my browser?

No. Conversion happens locally and inputs are not uploaded or saved. No account or generation allowance is required.

Why is my hex rejected?

Each byte needs two hex digits. Use supported separators and prefixes, and remove offsets or text columns from hex dumps. Invalid UTF-8 sequences also produce an error.

Can I decode a hash or encrypted message?

Converting hex to bytes does not reverse a hash or decrypt ciphertext. Such bytes usually do not form readable UTF-8.

What is the input limit?

Each input is limited to 100,000 JavaScript string units to keep conversion responsive. Output byte counts describe the encoded data.
