IP Lookup

Find your public IP and look up approximate location, ISP and network details. Review provider limits and why IP location is not a precise address.

The address used to reach Genory. A VPN or proxy may change it. This does not test both IP versions.

Approximate country and city are loaded automatically via IPWHOIS using your public IP. This is not your precise location.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Understand the address behind a connection.

Your public IP is the address Genory sees for this connection. Look up that address or enter another public IPv4 or IPv6 address to explore its approximate location and network.

  1. 01

    Check your public IP

The address at the top is detected through our trusted proxy. Local previews may not have a public visitor address.

  2. 02

    Choose an address

Use Look up my IP or enter a public address. Domains and private network addresses are not supported.

  3. 03

    Read the context

Compare country, region, network and hostname. An unavailable field is not a failed security check.

Example public addresses

IPv4: 8.8.8.8
IPv6: 2606:4700:4700::1111

These are public DNS service addresses. Their reported locations describe network infrastructure, not a person’s home.

Practical answers for your next test.

Is an account required?

No. Basic lookups are free, with request limits and a shared provider allowance.

Where is the IP sent?

Genory automatically sends your public IP to IPWHOIS for the country and city shown at the top and queries reverse DNS. Manual lookups send the selected address through the same service. Results may remain in server memory for up to 15 minutes. Browser details are displayed locally.

Why is the location different from mine?

Database estimates, mobile networks, VPNs, proxies and distributed infrastructure can all affect the reported location.

Does this check IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity separately?

No. Your public IP shows the address used for this request. You can manually look up either address type.
